CranioSacral Therapy for Stress Relief

One of the largest contributors to distress and disease in our bodies is stress. Our bodies weren’t designed to operate at the elevated levels of stress that we put them through. So many of us are constantly operating in the “fight or flight” sympathetic nervous system. This hyper-aware state can be great in the short term but very detrimental in the long term. When we are in this state, our nervous system rarely gets to go into a deep “rest and digest” parasympathetic state. This deeply nourishing time is when our body focuses on repairing and feeding our cells. Without it, we get more and more run down, we get sick, and we get more anxious because our system is stuck in a state of hyper-alertness. When we are chronically stressed our bodies often forget how to get relaxed. Then we have trouble sleeping, our minds are constantly spinning, and our bodies are restless. This can create a state of chronic fatigue.
There are many ways to help reduce stress and its effects on our bodies: diet, exercise and mediation are all vital components. CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is also a great way to help reduce stress and retrain our bodies on how to access that deep parasympathetic state. CST is a gentle, non-invasive, manual therapy that works with our craniosacral system. Because the craniosacral system includes structures of the central nervous system—the skull, cerebrospinal fluid, the membranes of the brain and spinal cord—it’s easy to see how CST can have a positive impact on the stress response and relaxation.
During a session, many people report feeling a sense of calm that they have never felt before. After several sessions, the body can be retrained on how to get back into the parasympathetic mode, naturally, on its own.
