Surya Little

Surya Little has been a devoted student and teacher of yoga, macrobiotic healing and the healing arts for more than 20 years.

Surya has traveled the globe studying various facets of yoga philosophy and practice. Her extensive training is in both Iyengar and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. These two traditions inform her teaching, resulting in dynamic, contemplative classes that are creatively and intelligently sequenced, internally focused and deeply inspiring to both beginning and advanced students.

She teaches from an intuitive and highly developed understanding of the energetics of the body. Her expertise in yoga therapeutics along with her vast nutritional knowledge—which combines Ayurveda, macrobiotics, and the MogaDao Five-Element theory—enables her students to embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery.

Surya’s path includes parallel studies in yoga and nutrition. In 1987, she began her spiritual healing while living in Switzerland at the Hairakhandi Babaji Ashram. Surya traveled to the foothills of the Himalayas to practice bhakti and karma yoga within the community of her spiritual teacher, Hairakhand Babaji. Inspired to study food, healing and yoga as a way of life, Surya studied at the Ayurveda Institute in New Mexico; studied macrobiotic healing and taught cooking classes in New York; and worked in Ryaad, Saudi Arabia where she cooked macrobiotic food and taught yoga for members of the Royal Family. She lived in Nepal from 1993-1998 teaching yoga and traveling to Mysore, India to study directly with K. Pattabhi Jois. Surya also studied Tibetan Buddhist meditation with Tsoknyi Rinpoche. Surya began her studies in Iyengar Yoga with Karin Stephan and continues under the guidance of Aadil Palkhivala and Patricia Walden.

Cofounder of Prajna Yoga with her husband, Tias Little, Surya specializes in women’s health in yoga, nutrition and therapeutic yoga. Her classes are dynamic and light-hearted and she inspires a greater compassion for the Self, while cultivating a strong mental and physical practice. She gives private yoga sessions and consults with students to improve their health and overall well-being.
