Shea Rollins, owner of Blue Moon Hot Yoga in Santa Fe, chose to teach hot yoga because she had experienced a deep physical transformation in just three months of daily practice. “Twenty years of chronic, debilitating lower back and knee pain were gone. The frozen shoulder I’d had for nine months was resolved. I was determined to maintain my newly functional body and I wanted to help others create ease and comfort in their own bodies,” she shares.
Rollins had already been practicing massage therapy for 15 years when she earned her certification to teach Bikram yoga. After teaching Bikram Yoga for four years she trained with Jimmy Barkan for certification as a Hot Vinyasa Flow instructor. In January 2011 she opened her studio. “I’ve been teaching hot yoga for 14 years. During this time I’ve seen positive changes in students, such as increased strength, greater flexibility and ease of movement, weight loss and re-distribution, greater balance, and elimination of exercise-induced asthma symptoms, to name a few,” she says. “Students also talk about feeling more balanced mentally and emotionally.”
