January 2014 – Publisher’s Letter
Starting this month we invite you to join us in celebrating 20 years of publishing Natural Awakenings. Visionary Sharon Bruckman, CEO and founder, began the concept with a single community magazine in Naples, Florida, which to date has grown to 90 community publications covering the U.S. from coast to coast and inspiring nearly 4 million readers.
Traditionally, the beginning of a new year is a launching pad for creating personal changes. Don’t be frustrated if you stick to your New Year’s resolution for a short time and then resort back to your old habits. It’s possible to forgive the lapse and start fresh, especially when we have support. I’ve found that tools for keeping us on track may include a coach or mentor, friends that hold us accountable, a posted vision map, classes, sharing goals with others and daily acknowledging steps taken. Just speaking aloud our clear intentions creates positive energy around them, allowing the universe to respond. We might even make it an honored New Year’s ritual.
I am deeply grateful for all of our advertisers and distribution sites that make this magazine possible. I am grateful for all of our readers, especially the reader that warmed my heart by thanking us for our Rethinking Cancer issue earlier this year because it prompted her to find local resources to provide a healthful alternative to conventional cancer treatment. I marvel at the synchronicity of a phone call from one of our Albuquerque readers when I was meeting with an advertiser in Santa Fe; He was calling to make an appointment for services and shared many positive and encouraging comments about the magazine.
The inspiring articles in our January Health & Wellness issue starting with “Build Your Own Wellness Dream Team” by Kathleen Barnes; “A Health Coach Helps Us Change for Good” by Lauressa Nelson; and “Fitness à la Carte –The Latest, Hottest Trends” by Christine MacDonald will fuel ideas to send your year off on a sky rocket start.
Wishing you abundant health, happiness and prosperity,
Andrea Williams, Publisher
