Publisher's Letter

December 2013 – Publisher’s Letter

This past year brought an accelerated learning curve to my life. I might go so far as to say there was never a dull moment, and that’s just the way I like it.

Twelve months ago I was sharing my first letter with you while transitioning from Florida to New Mexico, my mind blown by the thought that thousands of people might read it. I still I can’t say that the writing has become routine, but I am at least more relaxed about it.

I am likewise adjusting to the distinctive rhythm that is New Mexico, “The Land of Enchantment,” continually intrigued by the journey.  It’s funny how no one mentioned the dry climate, winds that seem to come out of nowhere like a desert storm, or double digit temperature fluctuations. Simultaneously, I am in awe of nature’s daily celestial artwork, the multitude of rainbows and the friendliness and hospitability of the people here.

Your warm welcome has gone far in completing my adjustment cycle and I am looking toward future expansion of Natural Awakenings Northern New Mexico. It is a privilege to be the local ambassador of this healthy people, healthy planet magazine, a national family of 90 publishers with 3.8 million U.S. readers (including Puerto Rico).

Thank you for all the positive feedback you have so generously shared locally. As we transition into 2014, we are requesting your wish list of the changes you would like to see, ways our team can serve you better. Please email us at, find us on Facebook or send us a tweet. This is your magazine!

To bring December’s theme of Awakening Humanity home, I invited several of the spiritual leaders in our community to share their thoughts on the future of humanity and planet Earth, as traditional reference points continue to shift and change. We trust that you will enjoy reading Linda Sechrist’s feature article, “Near-Death Experiences,” and Eckhart Tolle’s inspiring message on “The Kingdom of Heaven Within.” You may find both of comfort and encouragement as you reflect on life situations and priorities.

If you are looking for people- and plant-friendly Christmas gifts, please peruse the beautiful offerings from local advertisers, ranging from organic soaps, oils and skin care to spiritual readings and pampering treatments. All have been carefully chosen for our Holiday Gift Guide.

I also love the wise gift suggestions from writer Oren Arnold:

To your enemy, forgiveness.
To an opponent, tolerance.
To a friend, your heart.
To a customer, service.
To all, charity.
To every child, a good example.
To yourself, respect.

May you and yours joy in a blessed holiday season,

Andrea Williams, Publisher
