Albuquerque Film and Media Experience at Nob Hill
The Land of Enchantment is gearing up for the highly anticipated International Film Festival coming to Nob Hill in Albuquerque, June 3-9. It’s an exciting time as the Albuquerque Film & Media Experience (AFME) unfolds an incredible selection of feature films, shorts, documentaries, art, music and performances at venues, stretching from The Hiland Theatre all the way down to the Kimo, showcasing our historic mother road of Route 66 to a worldwide audience.
From Robert and Sibylle Szaggars Redford, Giancarlo Esposito (BREAKING BAD, REVOLUTION), director Joshua Michael Stern (jOBS, Swing Vote), and local favorites to incredible screenings about the Dalai Lama, bees, planet Earth, GMO’s and other thought-provoking subjects, there will be something for everyone and an incredible variety of experiences that will bring community together in the weeklong adventure.
Started by special events producer and Nob Hill resident, Lainie S. Quirk and Ivan Wiener, long-standing Albuquerque resident, producer and service provider for the New Mexico film industry, the duo created AFME to raise the profile of Albuquerque, highlight New Mexico’s cultural heritage and the local arts, bring global attention to the state and make this a worldwide destination event. “We truly believe in the ability to invoke powerful experiences that connect us all into oneness,” says Quirk and Wiener. “As our world becomes smaller through technology, it is through the mediums of a powerful film and their messages that we can take a moment and ask, ‘What can I do to make a difference’? AFME is that platform for storytelling.”
Highlights include an insider documentary about the late Dennis Hopper: In His Own Words; a documentary on singer Rick Springfield’s 30 year fan base called An Affair of The Heart; The Lion of Judah, which showcases the incredible journey of a Holocaust survivor; the world premiere of Justice Denied, an impactful film about male rape in the military; 3 Magic Words, a stunning metaphysical film; and Watershed, The Redford Center’s eye-opening film about the Colorado River and the water crisis we all face, to name just a few.
The other major highlight of AFME is the spectacular special events that are going to make the summer nights sizzle with excitement. On Tuesday, June 4, come experience the “Taste of Film,” a gourmet fundraiser for The Storehouse, held at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center.
Chef Michael Giese will be preparing a stunning five course meal based on film themes from the week’s spotlighted movies. On Wednesday, June 5, don’t miss the children’s program, a “freebee” screening of Bee Movie, starring Jerry Seinfeld, at the Kimo Theatre. On Friday, June 7, is “An Evening with Robert Redford” at Hiland Theatre. Come hear one of Hollywood’s favorite icons speak about filmmaking, art and his love of living in the Land of Enchantment.
